Note
|
Alice Evert spent most of her early life near Hyannis. She attended school and graduated in 1938. Alice taught rural schools in Cherry County and attended Chadron State College. After marrying Walter Roberts of Crookston, they lived for many years on his place south of Crookston, Nebraska. They adopted three small children and raised them and enjoyed the grandchildren. After moving to Valentine, Alice was an aide in the public schools for many years and was in the classroom for 50 years. Alice loved teaching. After the three children were gone from home, Alice had a foster home and helped several children with their lives. In tribute to a very loving woman, the town of Valentine awarded her their Outstanding Citizen award on February 14, 1993.--excerpt from Alice Evert Roberts' obituary Alice was a school teacher and took care of her husband's mother until she died. Later she adopted [her brother] Henry Warren [Evert]'s kids.--Elsie Kay Thomas, daughter of cousin Hazel Reed, in letter to Teri Reed Hjelmstad dated 5 March 1995. |
