Jesse was the fire chief for the Redstone Volunteer Fire Department. It was touch and go for the fire department because the district was small and did not receive much tax money, as people did not believe in fire protection. The first fire equipment consisted of a hose cart, two 15-gallon cans, and a hose. A big bell was used for the fire alarm.
