Anecdote
Citation details: page 8 Note: Her sister Thecla's earliest memory of something special about Eleanor was her going off to Convent School. It seemed like such a long way to go. Eleanor inherited her Mama's love of dancing, and she would do the Charleston when she was home on a visit. How Thecla wished she could have done that Charleston. She was also fascinated when Eleanor spoke about the other kids and the things they got to do. It was like a different world. |
Anecdote
Citation details: page 8 Note: Eleanor married Julius Bjerken who lived only one mile away. There were eleven in their family, and ten Walzes, all about the same ages. They had lots of fun and games together. |
Birth of a son
Anecdote
Citation details: page 8 Note: Her sister Thecla recalled that Eleanor married very young, giving the Walzes the very first grandchild, Benny, whom they all fought to hold. They remember giving him something to drink at a party at their house, and his falling into a pail of water. Pretty cruel, but all thought it was so funny. |
