Note: Mr. Reed had been ill for a long time with kidney trouble and died very suddenly. He ate a hearty breakfast and was taking his usual rest after that meal and felt as well as usual. There was no one present when he passed away. His aged companion was in another room attending to her household duties. Thinking that he had slept long enough she went to rouse him and found he had passed over the river.

Note: According to his granddaughter, Alta Kaessinger "My grandfather (Samuel Harvey) married again, where I don't know, or when. He went to Oklahoma--near Lawton--thought he'd get rich in oil. I can remember my father [Robert Morton Reed] going to Oklahoma, Samuel must have been in a divorce and didn't want the women [sic] to get her hands on his land. How long he was in Oklahoma and when he sold out, I don't know, he did go back to Illinois and lived with Anna [Reed McDavitt, his daughter] until they had to have him hospitalized, old age."

According to his granddaughter, Alta Kaessinger "My grandfather (Samuel Harvey) married again, where I don't know, or when. He went to Oklahoma--near Lawton--thought he'd get rich in oil. I can remember my father [Robert Morton Reed] going to Oklahoma, Samuel must have been in a divorce and didn't want the women [sic] to get her hands on his land. How long he was in Oklahoma and when he sold out, I don't know, he did go back to Illinois and lived with Anna [Reed McDavitt, his daughter] until they had to have him hospitalized, old age."

According to family tradition, Samuel was not the most industrious of men. He never got any of his father's land, but he received money instead. He bought and sold land in several states, but each time he lost money until his inheritance was gone.
