Occupation
a fish merchant. Having been a fisherman in Norway, he began shipping in frozen fish from Seattle, Washington. Once a week he would pick up the shipment in Culbertson leaving early in the morning by team and wagon. He sold fish to settlers in the area on the way home. In 1909 he also began farming the homestead, breaking 20 acres for flax that year. Every year thereafter, he broke 10-23 more acres until 1916 when he was farming 100 acres of flax, oats, and wheat.
