Basel        Pictures        Previous        Next       Top

At the wharf in Basel, we found the river boats anchored 3-deep at the pier. We had to walk along gangplanks and through the foyers of two other boats before we reached ours, the Avalon Tapestry. We had the cabins at the rear of the boat. We had wondered whether we would be bothered by engine noise, but we found the cabin to be very quiet. Since we were at the end of the hall, no one ever walked past our room. All the rooms on the boat are outside rooms, so we had a full view of the east bank of the river. Our boat cast off as we enjoyed our first meal in the dining room. The wine flowed until dessert was served. After dinner, we went out to watch the boat pass under a bridge and through one of the locks on the upper Rhine.
